trickster vs. shooter

This topic had to be made. Amd it is really something that has been on my mind since the advent of the tricking revolution. Which is superior? Is there a clear winner or is it how the player adapts to the game?

After 4 years of fighting for shooters, I've come to terms with it. At any standard competitive field. Pure tricksters have the clear advantage. Intense speed, ability to crack almost any good defense. If the shooter is having a rough day even with setups, sucls for him. The trickster easily converts stolen balls into instant goals. I'm done fighting for the idea thatb shootters should be considered equal to tricksters.

Tnm is the one person I got inspiration from, and he seems to be one of the few to keep this dying playstylw alive and be extremely effective with it. As for me, I'm joining the tricksters. If you can't beat them, join them.

I learned the same thing as you did Miles, tricksters have the advantage anywhere now, but the thing is I don't want to completely convert to a full time trickster, I want to incorporate the tricks I'm learning into my shooting based team (Mario, 2Boo's, Birdo) so I can have a better chance of winning but keeping some of the core of my classic play-style.

to be honest, i dont believe this at all. sure im a trickster, but i have at least 10 times more difficulty defending shooters than i do tricksters. in fact, trix, a shooter, may be the best player here. a good shooting team will still have fats characters (most likely two boos) so you can use those characters to stay back and play defense. in addition, you can use those speed characters to trick. when a shooter tricks, it causes the opponent to second guess his defense by opening up a whole 'nother dimension to your game. now he has to worry about the set up, the luck shot, AND a potential trick coming at him.

when used correctly, shooting is the most deadly tactic in the game in my opinion. i think it is harder to get to be extremely good with shooters, but once there, it is unstoppable

ok, let me clarify then. Pure shooter vs. pure trickster.

The reason tricks is as good as he is is because he is a threat with both tricks and shots, so it is hard to predict him.

With pure shooting, your team is just too slow :/

a trickster is easier but shooting is equally strong if the shooter knows what he is doing.

I do feel shooters are put at way to high of a disadvantage if they dont have home though

Its funny how wrong everyone is besides batman about this topic. Trickster playstyle is for people who cant play defense unless they have all fast people on their team. Its for lazy people who wanna make sure they can score if they perform a trick (btw only a few people actually have tricks mastered everyone else sucks sorry). If you have tricks mastered your a good trickster. If not sorry but your gonna get beat alot. Shooting has even more potential then tricking because you can score from anywhere at any point in the game. Good shooters like TNM will just exploit this so easily. ANd to jimmy your bad against shooters becase 1. your defense is weak or 2. You havent met people like scruffs who dissemble msc players like its nothing. Shooters can be stopped just like tricksters but theres so much more they can do. With 2 boos you can still bring tricks into your playstyle and be soo good. ie: scruffs dk birdo 2 boos. Plus your defense isnt actually handicapped because thats a main arguement to why tricking is better. Tricking isnt better at all. Good tricksters will have the edge on good shooters if they take home but i mean rly, shooting is so dominant. Besides tricksters now and days are garbage anyways... And honestly thats the problem, if people would try shooting they could be good. But like for tricking you either make the trick and are good, or you miss the trick like mex and are bad. mex would be a best if he could hit a serve it in but he doesnt so thats why he loses.

idk i just kinda pissed when people say tricking is better. makes me feel like nobody actually plays this game enough to realise how good shooting actually is.

Shooting can be abused so badly it's not even funny (HAHAHAHAHAHA). With so much luck in the game, a shooter that isn't just a B spammer can easily set up goals with pass formations or just good item use. Defensive wise, all a shooter really needs is a fast defensive player in the backfield and he can counter nearly every trick in the game thus far. So honestly for me, a shooter is better than a trickster, but no one has been able to show it yet til now.

There is no question that, individually, tricking is superior to shooting.

Batman, shooting is equally strong, say a great shooter vs. a You. The issue is the individuality of tricking and shooting.

And now Eray is exactly right. People who complain about shooters have poor defense. And 95% of tricksters I have played have no true shooter defense - they rely on their quick characters and deke button for defense. That is not defending, and that's not elite.


And now why tricking is better than shooting:

Everyone is arguing that shooting is better than tricking but those people are talking about tricksters who also shoot and shooters who also trick. It is obvious that shooting in this scenario is better due to the unpredictability factor as well as the 'I'm stuck, let me just pass it to Birdo for a shot'. It is TRICKING that makes the shooter so dangerous, not the actual shooting. The argument is null! We're talking about tricking vs shooting. Any GOOD trickster will know defense, exploit the shooter's weakness, and use his skill to win, end of story.

Shooting, by itself, is great as everyone says. Tricking is great as well, but probability dictates that tricking is better. It's just math and common sense. You're talking about a shot going in Strikers, vs. a serve it in. Which is guaranteed?

I will say this: pure shooting vs. pure tricking --> tricking should always win.

This is of course making the assumption that both players are "elite". The times a pure shooter wins, I consider it a triumph, and it is always the reason I admired renowned shooters.

Advantages of a trickster:

1. Incredibly fast. This lends itself to insanely good defense in the hands of a person who is not spammy but patient (an elite player).

2. Teleports to uncharge the ball and open up for breakaways.

3. ALMOST any breakaway can be converted into a goal if you're not a dumbass/fail.

4. You can still utilize pass patterns to score goals with weak players.

The speed of a tricking team and its ability to uncharge the ball just dismantles a shooter. what is a shooter without the charge? It gets very discouraging also considering how insanely fast tricksters are at stages like classroom, who can score goals off the face off and easily come back.

A typical shooter will need at least 15 shots to secure a win, unless its very lucky.

Assuming a trick team has wally 2 boo and db, this is a very fast team. They will not let you have the ball easily and will take it away quick and decharge the ball. Once they decharge it, you're back to square one, and they're gone.

If they dont let you get ~15 shots, which any good defender with that team SHOULD be able to do, shooting doesnt stand a chance.
